Title: Spinning a Lie
House: Gryffindor
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Worse things I could do.
Rating: PG
Characters: Petunia and one of her neighbors
Author's Notes: The morning after A Peck of Owls. I don't write Petunia much, if at all. I hope you all like this one (you know 10 rewrites later, it's something that works). Still, I'd rather be fighting keeping it under a hundred words than not being able to think of anything at all. Maybe if I would quit writing the last line first...*ponders*
"I heard shouting last night, Petunia." Her neighbor took a dainty sip of tea, "Is everything okay?"
Petunia, looking puzzled, replied, "Shouting?" Then she smiled, "Oh, you must mean the tele. Dudley was watching it last night and I forgot to close the windows. I apologize."
"Think nothing of it." And thus, the subject was closed.
After tea, Petunia locked the door behind her neighbor and sank to the floor, nauseated by the lie she’d spun so easily. Guilt ate at her until she realized she could have done something worse than lie...
She could have told her the truth.
