The following is the description of the gods that can be found in Myrddin. These are the only gods that have (or eventually WILL have) established temples within Myrddin proper. HOWEVER, this does NOT mean that your character must worship one of these gods. You are still free to pick or create whichever god you would like for your char. This list is used as a reference only for those who choose to use it, and these are the gods/religions that Myrddin NPCs worship/practice.
The Myrddin pantheon consists of only 3 major gods, and from these gods spring countless religions that have been established over the years by various blessed followers (saints). There is a god who represents Good, one who represents Evil, and one who strikes a balance between the two. Their history is as follows…
The being known only as the Tinkerer was the creator of the Planes of Existence. No one knows what type of creature the Tinkerer is or was, but many believed him to be related to the dwarves of the Material Plane, for they hold in their abilities remnants of the Tinkerer’s greatness, as they seem to create beauty out of nothing.
The Tinkerer created the Planes of Existence as a experiment, so he might watch the ebb and flow of power between the many levels he created. After a period of time – no one really knows how long – the Tinkerer began to see the planes deteriorating, for the power that flowed from some to the others was misdirected and didn’t have the organization it needed. The damage the random flow was causing was eventual but definite, so the Tinkerer assigned other beings to control the flow of power from one plane to the next. No one knows where beings came from, but it was possible the Tinkerer created them or pulled them out of the Planes themselves. Each plane was assigned one being to oversee the flow of energy to and from their plane.
This set up worked for many millennia, and the Overseers of the Planes did their job well. However, the being assigned to controlling the energy for the plane named Krondil noticed that Krondil was getting too crowded and overpopulated, and he thought that he could enlarge its size by increasing the amount of energy that flowed into it. None of the other beings took notice at first, and even when they discovered the change they simply adjusted the way they handled their respective planes.
But the planes were not designed by the Tinkerer to work in such a disproportionate fashion. The adjustments from the beings worked against the fabric of the planes themselves, and a tension built up over time like a compressing spring. Not even the Tinkerer realized what had happened until it was too late, and when the planes could no longer take the strain, they warped in unison and released all the pent up energy.
The Prime Material was the only plane that stayed mostly intact, but the others were affected to various, sometimes devastating, degrees. When the planes finally stilled, only three of the overseers remained: Hovan, who was the overseer for the Prime Material plane, Kalosh, the overseer of Krondil, and Nihl, who had been an overseer of a destroyed plane. The other planes were devastated and barren, and some of them damaged to a point where they were in pieces.
The Tinkerer was prepared to destroy them all and start anew, but Hovan begged the Tinkerer to leave his plane as it was. The Tinkerer did so, and he told Kalosh his eternal punishment was to be the overseer of what was left of his plane, which was now only made of circular chasms and fire. The Tinkerer then asked Nihl what she wanted, and she told him she wanted the rest of the planes so she might slowly rebuild them. The Tinkerer gave them to her on her promise that she would build the planes so their power would balance on their own and Overseers would not be needed some day.
And so, that is how the Planes of Existence came into being and why one can find occasional cracks in the fabric of the various planes. It is why the god Hovan is blessed in Myrddin and the name of Kalosh is cursed. And always there is Nihl, who is trying to rebuild and make the planes balance on their own…

Saint Horace
Chaotic Good
The Saint of Wanderers

Saint Ophylia
Neutral Good
The Saint of Peace
Also called: The Simple Lady
Symbol: A blue circle with a green square (often depicted by an emerald) that fits just inside it
Description: Ophylia appears a woman in white armor, which may contradictory to her title, but she is often at the sites of battles, waiting for their outcomes. She then blesses their endings and strives to maintain the peace that was just achieved. Some believers say that she and Saint Cyril are mates, while other believers consider her a virgin (and rumors to the contrary are blaspemy).
Saint Anshelm of Chaldor
Lawful Good
The Saint of Protectors
Also called: Chaldor
Symbol: A silver dagger marked with a cross on the handle and the words "Semper Patronus" inscribed underneath it
Description: Little is known of Chaldor's early life, although it is said that as a youngster he defeated the demons of the Ethereal Plane by swordsmanship never seen in one so young. Those who suffered from various physical and/or emotional ailments were drawn to him, as well as those who were tormented by assorted demons not necessarily on the Physical Plane. It was in fighting those particular demons, however, which the legend of Chaldor arose. Although nobody has ever claimed to actually see him, it is known that he appears spontaneously in a mist, the only recognizible features being his glowing red eyes and deep, sonorous voice. His frequency of visits to the Physical Plane correspond to how much a Protector needs guidance, additional training, etc. Some Protectors have no idea they officially answer to the title until the mist of Chaldor appears.
The Saints of Nihl
Saint Gregory
Lawful Neutral
The Saint of War
Also called: n/a

Saint Benet
Lawful Neutral
The Saint of Nature
Also called: n/a

The Saint of Luck – both good and bad
Also called: The Unwelcome Guest/The Welcome Guest (depending on the point of view)
Symbol: a knife balanced on its tip
Description: Quince appears in many different forms, but he is usually pictured as a wiry little man wearing green and laughing constantly. He is very unpredictable; if someone has his attention, then things go well if he likes that person. BUT, if he doesn’t like that person, Quince will curse him so that nothing goes right. He can be a pest or a blessing, so most people avoid having any contact with him. However, those who stay faithful to worshipping him are very lucky people indeed…until Quince changes his mind…
Saint Nonce
True Neutral
The Saint of Knowledge
Also called: the Unknown Saint
Symbol: A white rag (explanation follows)
Description: Nonce is the most unusual of saints, for no one really knows if Nonce ever existed…and no one know his real name. However, legend has it that Nonce was the most knowledgeable person who ever lived, and he attained sainthood by impressing Nihl with his love of information in its purest form. The followers of Nonce are able to cast spells, but non-believers in the Saint simply say the spells come from Nihl Herself rather than this “saint.” Regardless, the followers of Nonce are the keepers of libraries and scrolls, and they dedicate their lives to the gathering and documentation of information. They are the most disciplined of followers, and they are very few in number…but they are easily spotted, for it is a requirement of every follower to wear two things at all times: one, a chain which bears the symbols of every known saint of all the gods, and two, they must wear 3 white rags tied around their faces to hide what they look like. Until they reach the highest level of priesthood, they must NEVER show their faces under penalty of losing their standing as a cleric. The only time they take off their rags is during their prayers, which must be said in private. People who take the chance of impersonating a follower of Nonce are often found dead of mysterious causes.
The Saints of Kalosh
Saint Lylah
Chaotic Evil
The Saint of Torture
Symbol: a black cat o’ nine tails with a red claw on the end of each thong
Also called: Pain’s Lover
Description: Lylah seldom appears in person, and she relies on her minions to do her bidding. When she does come to the Material Plane, she appears as a beautiful raven-haired woman, but if her back is exposed, one can see that the flesh has been ripped off as if she was whipped to death. She’s a favorite among assassins and anyone who engages in murder, especially when it is painful. The poisonous plants of the world are said to have been created by her, and any time a new poison is created, it is said to be a gift from Lylah.
Saint Minoce
Lawful Evil
The Saint of Demons
Symbol: a drop of blood
Also Called: The True Master/The False Master (once again, depending on the point of view)
Description: Minoce is the greatest of all the demons and devils in the plane of Hell. It is rumored that he and Kalosh are constant struggling with each other for rule over Hell, but since Minoce was not appointed by the Tinkerer, his attempts are constantly thwarted. Nevertheless, those willing to call on him are often likely to get a response, for he is eager to advance his power in any way possible. HOWEVER, most people who try to call on his assistance are very, very likely to get killed if Minoce does not believe the caller to be worth his time.
Saint Borris
Neutral Evil
The Saint of Deception
Also called: The Creator Of Lies
Symbol: At first glance, his symbol merely looks like a curled line, but the end of it is split; it’s a forked tongue.
Description: Borris has never appeared as the same being twice. He can come to the Material Plane as either gender, and nothing he says can ever be relied upon. He is the most difficult of the saints to deal with and the most unpredictable. It is rumored that even Kalosh does not like him but he needs Borris’ skills so he cannot rid himself of such a pest. Any faithful worshipper of Borris is believed to be capable of deceiving anyone and convincing others of anything they desire.
