As all games require some sort of plot, so do most games require some sort of enemy to defeat. In our game, not only will the player have the random encounter chance but also will, eventually, have to figure out who the main enemy is and confront them to defeat the game.

Countess Ariadnae - Her father is the step-uncle of Prince Alexander. She is younger than Alexander and was to marry him before he met Sarae. Highly offended at the whole state of affairs, she delved into the dark arts and, with the help of a cadre of wizards, created the plague, intent upon finishing off her rivals and clearing the way to the throne. She is, legitimatly, seventh in line to the throne and is the youngest and only daughter of four. She calls the people infected with the plague her 'hounds.' |
Korin Vandule - Advanced student who worked with Ariadnae at the school they both attended. He maybe loves her, he maybe is using her to gain his own agenda (the destruction of the monarchy), either way, he is the genius mastermind behind the creation of the plague. He is elvan and, therefore, made the plague to attack those not of elvan descent. Of course, the plague itself had other ideas...
The Daemons - these are the poor saps that Ariadnae infected with the plague. The lucky ones die or are cut down before they can do any damage to their loved ones. The others wreak incredible havoc, suffused with the strength of ten men as well as all of the skills and knowledge that they had in their former lives, driven insane by the plague eating their brains. They travel in packs, for the most part, and are any race/any class, though elves are less frequent than any other race. Surrounded by a greenish tinted halo, they dominate the cities closer to Ariadnea's stronghold.
Various other random encounters will include the standard fare - wolves, dogs, lions, tigers, badgers, field mice (cause nothing is more humiliating than getting your rear end handed to you by a mouse), evil NPCs, plague sufferers, ducks, boar, etc.
